VersusNG Presents the FIFA Icons of 2018
Posted by April 1, 2018 in EsportsFIFA Icons ’18 was VersusNG’s big event for FIFA fans all over to prove their skill in the latest instalment from EA Sports. The open tournament saw 12 players compete for a total prize pool of ₦50,000. In attendance were a few of Kaduna’s finest, like Ahman “Oginji” Ibrahim, Papa, and Laban Ladan. Also present were players new to the VersusNG community, proving that Kaduna has even more hidden talent than we thought.
Played across two stages, the FIFA tournament began with a round-robin segment consisting of three teams of 4 players battling to make it into the Playoffs. Each win represented 3 points, while a draw only furnished 1 point and a loss resulting in none. Those with the highest points moved on to the next stage with Isa and Oginji leading the charge in Groups A and B with 9 points each. In second place were Mosan and Gabriel, while Group C saw Sano take the top position and AA the second.
Group Stage
Making it to the Final was both Group A finalists, Oginji and Gabriel. The latter quickly became the tournament’s underdog as this was his first appearance at a VersusNG FIFA event, wrestling to become the tournament favourite in the hearts of many. Gabriel was able to give Oginji a run for his money too, seizing the second match win in the Bo3 Final. However, faced with the prospect of defeat, the reigning champion was able to secure one more win to take the tournament and the first place cash prize of ₦20,000. Joining Kaduna’s 2018 FIFA Icons was Ibrahim A., who defeated Papa 3-1 in the third-place match.
